Reviews:  In The Collective, Dr. Arlo, a scientist and medical doctor, must contend with the demands of a government that controls social media and the pull of individuality that causes him to question it. He lives in Metra, but wonders what is happening in the Outlands, controlled by the Resistance that supports civil unrest. Unsure of what side to take, he questions his role in society, his marriage, and his purpose in life. Once the characters are established, there is a lot of action, twists and turns of plot, and reversals of fortune. And why? Because this is a futuristic society that has political prisoners based on what they think instead of what they have actually done. This is a dangerous book for modern times, but a must read for fans of dystopia fiction.

The Collective paints a vivid picture of a dystopian future reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984. Dr. Jake Arlo is tasked with installing a Lynk into each newborn, ensuring their loyalty to the new order established after the Great Cataclysm wrought by climate change. Those who go astray are quickly reconditioned. But Dr. Arlo is a fly in the ointment of the Collective. A story that speaks to the dangers of unquestioning conformity vs. the burning desire to live life fully on one’s own terms, The Collective is full of action, adventure, personal relationships, love, and the lengths people will go to in order to secure their freedoms. It’s a thoughtful narrative that will make you view social media from a different perspective. Maybe you’ve already concluded that social media, like the premise of the Collective, is a form of societal mind control. If so, this book is for you. If not, it might convince you! Dale Grove has written an exciting tale that is eerily believable in today’s fraught world. I give it a big thumbs up and a high recommendation. I was gifted this title in exchange for an honest review. Anyone who knows me also knows I won't trash a book, but by the same token, I won't review something I don't like. This book is a winner.
What if the world were so entangled with modern communication that you had to join a Collective daily?  Would you want to live in such a society?  How would you escape it?  How would you hold on to your privacy and secrets?  Dr. Arlo discovers that he is the lynch-pin that either holds this world together or rips it to shreds.  The problem:  Dr. Arlo doesn't even know who he is and why the Collective and the Resistance take such an active  interest in him.
Dr. Grove is working through the fifth draft of this project.  This book will be out in 2022.
